When I think about boudoir I think about images that hint and imply, I think there’s a soft and subtle intimacy in so many boudoir images that isn’t confronting or overtly sexual.
There is of course a genre where the subject wants to bring more sexuality and sensuality to the shoot. With over 15 years of photographing the figure I still don’t like to think of this work as ‘glamour shots’. For some it may blur the lines between boudoir and intimate portraits, but often the subject still wants to be seen more like they’re assuming a role, without the intimate direct connection I associate with that work. A bit sexy and maybe a bit arty, for me right now I call it ‘Boudoir-X’.
